L. F. (Let) Whiten, 67, a resident of Franklin County, but formerly of Toccoa, died early Tuesday morning in Stephens County Hospital after a serious illness of 11 days.
A native of Franklin County, he was born September 7, 1894 and was a son of the late W. P. and Charity Bellamy Whiten. He had spent all of his life in Franklin and Stephens Counties. He retired from Toccoa Manufacturing Company two years ago, and was a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillie Oakley Whiten of the home; five sons, Joe Whiten, Jack Whiten, Bud Whiten and Ted Whiten, all of Toccoa, and Felix Whiten of Dallas, TX; four daughters, Mrs. Bobby Smith of Atlanta, Mrs. Ottis Steele, Mrs. Ray Whitehead and Mrs. Joe Dean, all of Toccoa; four brothers, E. J. Whiten of Easley, SC, Preston A. Whiten, Jewel B. Whiten and Jolly Whiten, all of Carnesville; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Cheek of Toccoa and Mrs. Bob Burnette, of Atlanta; 22 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. from Carnes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John Strickland, Rev. Jarrett Ragan, and Rev. E. R. Brady officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
