He was born on Sept. 5, 1918 in rural Wythe County, VA to the late Sanders and Amanda Austin. He was employed for 30 years as a furnance operator for Republic Steel, retiring in 1983.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Navarre Moose Lodge # 2471 and Navarre VFW Post # 5047. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Austin in 1989, to whom he was married for 44 years and four sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.
Mr. Austin is survived by his sons, Richard Austin of Cleveland, OH, Stephen Austin of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Sandra (Dale) Davis of Navarre, Joyce Duffley of Canton, Elizabeth Gray of Canton, Amy Austin of Massillon; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral services were conducted in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Rev. Janice Strawn officiating.
Burial in Navarre Union Cemetery.
