Roderick "Rod" E. Becton, Sr. 74, passed away at his home Thursday, September 25, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

The family will greet friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Rod was born May 25, 1934, in Ames, IA to James, Sr. and Helen Becton. He retired from Aramark Services after many years of service. Rod was a member of the Des Moines Roadrunners Bowling Guild and a former member of the Prince Hall Masons and the North Star Lodge #2, F.& A.M. Zeid Temple #90, A.E.A.O.N.M.S. William Frank Powell Consistory #46 where he had served as
President of the Clown Patrol and visited many children's hospitals over the years. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Annette; his children, Tina Dudley, Regina Mosley, Holly Robertson, Roderick Becton, Jr. and Keith Becton; sister, Penny Carter; mother of Tina, Regina, Roderick, Jr. and Keith, Georgia Becton; seven grandchildren, A.J. Gardner, Tika Gardner, Damian Dudley, Jamaal Dudley, Kirby Mosley, Kayla Mosley and Yarima Robertson: two great-grandchildren, Jahari and Jovan Gardner; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Becton, Jr. and Larry "Dino" Becton; sisters, Francine Becton, Alma Patterson and Dorothy Gaskin; and his son-in-law, Dr. Sherman Robertson.
