Doris E. Cummings, age 91, of Rensselaer passed away at home January 18, 2012. Doris was born in Rensselaer on February 25, 1920, the daughter of Ernest Rockwell and Marion (Meader) Rockwell. Doris was a graduate of Fair Oaks High School and attended Purdue University. On December 10, 1942, in Virgie, Indiana Doris married Prentice C. Cummings. They made their home in Rensselaer, later moving to Brownsburg, Indiana for several years before returning to Rensselaer.
Doris was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer, the Gideon's Auxiliary and the Jasper County Hospital Auxiliary. She was involved with the Hendricks County Meals on Wheels for 18 years.Doris is survived by her husband, Prentice, five children, Roger (Judy) Cummings and Janet (Steve) Hurley, both of Rensselaer; Donn (Tanya) Cummings of Brownsburg, Anne (Duane) Judd of Clermont, IN and Carol (Steve) Gottschalk of Rochester, IN; Twenty-one Grandchildren and 36 Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Mary) Rockwell of Oxford, IN and a sister, Mary Lou (Edwin) Nagel of Rensselaer. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Neal Rockwell.
Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Hospital, the Gideon's or the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer.
