Virgil (Bud) F. BARTEN of Manhattan, age 81, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Sunny Hill Rehab Center, Joliet. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Angela WALSH BARTEN; two step daughters, Phyllis (Frank) BENTLEY of Lockport and Marie (Jim) UTHE of Michigan; two grandsons; five granddaughters; and 11 great grandchildren; four sisters, Lillian (Le Roy, deceased) SEGEGEBRUCH, Loretta (Raymond) SEGGEBRUCH and Marie (Wilbur) BROOKMAN all of Manhattan and Shirley KUBEL of Gardner. Numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Sophie HEISNER BARTEN; four brothers, Lester, Harold, Vernon and Orville; and two sisters, Florence and Ruth BARTEN. Bud was a member of the Will County Farm Bureau, St. Paul's United Church of Christ and the church dart ball team. He was also a Past President of the Manhattan Center Cemetery. Virgil F. BARTEN will lie in state at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 140 Thelma Street, Manhattan on Friday, July 16, 2004 from 9:30 AM until time of service at 10 AM with Rev. Carol Currier- Frighetto officiating. Interment, Manhattan Center Cemetery. Memorials to the Manhattan Paramedics or St. Paul's United Church of Christ would be most appreciated.
