William Herschel Payne, aged 25 years, 8 months and 23 days, son of Lewis and Ella Payne, died at his home near Salem, Indiana, on Third month 26th, 1908. Herschel was taken with typhoid fever at the Indiana State Normal, where he would soon have finished his course of study, was brought home by his roommate and rapidly went down. He gave promise of a very useful life.
