William T. Allen, 87, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Allen was born Feb. 8, 1924, in San Angelo to Bob and Betty Allen. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1942. He entered the service in 1943, and completed flight training and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1944. During World War II, he served as a pilot in the 459th Bomb Group in Italy flying B-24s. After the war, he served at a number of state-side assignments flight testing a number of planes. He separated from the Air Force in late 1946, and attended Texas A&M and graduated as an aeronautical engineer in 1950. He worked for General Dynamics in a number of positions including flight test instrumentation, F-111 safety project engineer, manager of F-16 European Engineering and Flight Operations. Mr. Allen retired from General Dynamics in 1986 as senior project engineer in charge of foreign F-16 engineering projects. He was certified as a Texas registered engineer in 1962 in three fields: aeronautical, mechanical and electrical engineering. Mr. Allen continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force active and reserve duty as a pilot and retired in 1984 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his service years, he flew 28 different types of single-, twin-, and four-engine aircraft. He had the privilege to fly both piston and jet engine aircraft. He was privileged to participate in a weeks flight operations flying off the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier flying F-4B Phantom and A-3 Skywarrior aircraft in 1963.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Allen.

Survivors: Daughter, Marilyn V. Carter and husband, Richard; son, William T. Allen Jr.; and grandsons, Robert Miller and Michael R. Parker, all of Tarrant County.
