GOLDEN - A. G. "Gaitus" Collier, 87, died March 27, 2008, at the Red Bay Hospital. A lifelong resident of Itawamba County, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in France, Germany and Belgium, and earned the Purple Heart. He also served his community in many ways. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Tremont Lions Club. He helped organize Bounds ICDC and Itawamba County Water Association. He was a lifelong worker in the timber industry as a manager and employee. He was a produce farmer and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Free Will Baptist Church in Red Bay, Ala.

Services were March 30 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with burial in Itawamba Memorial Gardens in Fulton.

Survivors included his wife of 69 years, Edith Pounders Collier of Golden; one daughter, Glenda Burks (Ralph) of Golden; three grandchildren, Sunja Eades Stuckey (Gid) of Olive Branch, Suzanne Eades of Fulton and Bo Burks (Farrow) of Montgomery, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Mary Grace Burks and Sophie Wallace Burks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marietta Woolridge Collier; three brother, Ott, Cooley and an infant brother; and a grandchild, Larry David Eades Jr.
