She developed the Volunteer Program at Community Hospital in 1966, and served as Director of Volunteers for a total of 23 years before retiring in 1989. She has been active in: the Red Cross, Magic City Garden Club, Thursday Morning Music Club, Women's Club, Virginia Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club, the PEO Sisterhood, the Blue Ridge Forum, and the Forte Nightly Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Braxton and Omie Culpepper.
