He was born on April 12, 1924, in Belleville, the son of Louis and Rosalie Smith. Ray served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific. After serving in the military, Ray was married to Norma Cook on Oct. 13, 1947. Together they had five children. They were married for 38 years before she passed away. Ray retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years. On Jan. 4, 1991, he was united in marriage to Helen Feiner. Ray enjoyed traveling, gardening, family gatherings and music. Ray was a woodworker, sharing his crafts with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; brother, Louis; two sisters, Doloris Pletan and Eugenia Schieber; and step-daughter, Lisa Domack.
Funeral services will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. The family would like to give special thanks to Monsignor Healy and to the staff at Nazareth House and HospiceCare for the loving care of Ray.
