WIDOW OF C. U. BOWERS DIES AT SEVENTY-FIVE

The death of Mrs. Bertha Bowers. widow of the late Clinton U. Bowers, city clerk of Garrett for 20 years, took place at the home of Mrs. Belle Roos, 121 South Randolph street, Garrett, Wednesday at 4 p. m.

Mrs. Bowers was 75 years of age and had been in ill health many years. She was bedfast several weeks and death was due to cancer.

The body was removed to the Geo. W. Iler mortuary. The funeral will be held at the Baptist church Saturday at 1:30, the Rev. J. Ross Fountain officiating. The body will lie in state from 11 a. m. until the time of the service. Interment will be made in the mausoleum in Calvary cemetery, Garrett.

Mrs. Bowers' maiden name was Lowmaster and she was born at Malinta, Henry county, O.. June 20, 1871. She and Mr. Bowers were married July 27, 1890, at Malinta and they moved to Garrett from Ohio in 1889.

Mr. Bowers was employed in B. & O. train service and in 1916 was elected city clerk. He was re-elected four times. Mrs. Bowers helped him in the office part of the time. He re-.tired in 1933 and then served as a city councilman. He died in 1941. Since that time Mrs. Bowers made her home with Mrs. Roos.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. E. S. Rupp of Pittsburgh, Pa., one son, Lt. Col. Lowell Bowers of South Bend, and four grandchildren. Mrs. D. L. Bachtal of South Second street. Garrett, was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Bowers and W. E. Frazier of 1000 South Randolph street, Garrett, was her nephew.

Mrs. Bowers was active in the First Baptist church and the W. C .T. U. Mrs. Rupp had been at her mother's bedside for the last month.
