Rites Are Held Friday for R. M. Dennis
ELMWOOD (Special)--Funeral services for Ransom M. Dennis, former hotel man, mail messenger and cemetery sexton, were held Friday afternoon at the Elmwood Christian church with Rev. N. F. Horn officiating. Music was by Helen Schneider, Opal Clements and Joyceola Eidenmiller, and casket bearers were Neal Dorr, George Eidenmiller, Fred Lake, Dudley Leavitt, Ed Parriott and Elmer Shreve. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery with ClementsMortuary in charge.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dennis, he was born in Crawford county, Iowa, on March 26, 1887. At the age of nine, he came to Nebraska with his parents.
He was reared at Humboldt, Nebr., and on October 14, 1908, was married to Miss Melva M. Bennet near Auburn. They moved to Elmwood in 1929 and operated a hotel there for seven years. Mr. Dennis served as mail messenger, carrying mail to and from the deport [sic], and served as caretaker of Elmwood cemetery for a number of years.
He was a member of the Christian church at Elmwood.
Surviving are his wife, Melva, three sons, Leland of Los Angeles, Calif., Loren of Bellevue, Wellington of Elmwood: three daughters, Mrs. LeNeve Rase of Bellevue; Mrs. Clara Fleischman and Mrs. Wanda Kuehn of Elmwood; and three sisters, Mrs Ruth Moore of DeWitt, Ark., Mrs. Eunice Weatherfield of Milan, Mo., and Mrs. Bernice Bridgeman of Portland, Ore. Sixteen grandchildren also survive. One son died in infancy and one daughter died two years ago.
