Sarah Dillon Walker Ackiss, 91, of Providence Place of Maryview, died March 26, 2004, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mrs. Ackiss was native of Elizabeth City, N.C., and a resident of Portsmouth since 1947. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Herbert Dillon Walker and Augusta Kramer Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit C. Ackiss. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the Fort Nelson Chapter of the DAR, Green Pine Garden Club and the Portsmouth Womans Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Ackiss Drescher and husband Richard of Portsmouth; a son, Kermit C. Ackiss Jr. and wife Kay of Portsmouth; two granddaughters, Christy Triepke and Elizabeth Hunter Whitesall; three grandsons, Carlton M. Ackiss, Edmund K. Ackiss and John D. Ackiss; a sister, Edla Walker Foreman; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Centenary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary F. Alvis and the Rev. Ruth Burgess. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703.
