Former Colony Farmer Dies At Clinton Hospital
Funeral services for George D. Bennett, Maud, brother of Homer and Mike Bennett, Mrs. Irene Rhodes and Mrs. Nellie Stephens, Carnegie, were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist church at Clinton with Rev. R.N. Hammons in charge. Burial was in the Clinton cemetery.
Bennett, 70, died Tuesday night, September 22, at Oklahoma General hospital,Clinton, following an illness of two months.
A native of Chelsea, he farmed a number of years in the Colony community, 11 years at Sanger, Calif., and the past six years near Maud.
He was a member of the Baptist church and was a Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Paden of Morro Bay, Calif., and Mrs. Todd Joyner of Clinton; five sons, Homer of Chula Vista, Calif., Charles, Del City, David of Encinita, Calif., Clifford, National City, Calif., and Paul of Maud; seven sisters, Mrs. Stephens and Mrs. Rhodes, Carnegie, Mrs. Fred Hudgins, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Luther Snellgrove, Tulsa, Mrs. Edna Bowerman, Reseda, Calif., Mrs. Walter Aaron, North Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Chester Jech, Crescent, Okla.; four brothers, Luther of Hanford, Calif., Mike and Homer, Carnegie, John of Plainview, Texas; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Leonard Hauk, Dallas McLemore, Duard Recker, Wayne Recker, Church Miller and Frank Gallomore.
Relatives attending the services from Carnegie included Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bennett, Mrs. Rhodes, Mrs. Stephens, Mrs. Beecher Recker, A.C. Sinclair, Mrs. Cora Stratton, Mrs. W.B. Bennett, Mrs. George Bennett.
