It's not clear why Isabella's obituary and death certificate state that her maiden name was Arnold, daughter of Joseph & Rebecca (Gross) Arnold. The only Joseph Arnold old enough to be Isabella's father was married to Susanna Gross, not Rebecca and Susanna died before Isabella was born. Both of Isabella's sons' death certificates state that Isabella's maiden name was Hoffman. Jacob & Maria (Derr) Hoffman had a daughter Isabella born 1854. And Jacob's second wife was Rebecca Gross. Isabella's obituary doesn't state who her siblings were but it is probable that she was in fact the daughter of Jacob & Maria (Derr) Hoffman and stepdaughter to Rebecca Gross.
