She married C. B. Wood on June 20, 1942 in San Saba County.
Nellie V was a member of South Side Baptist Church of Brownwood, where she had resided for the last 14 years. She enjoyed being around her friends and family, and everyone who knew her would agree she had a very generous heart.
Nellie V and C. B. were always helping take care of their neighbors, either giving them fresh produce out of their garden or just lending a helping hand. Nellie V. and C. B. were very active in the Elm Grove Community, participating in the various social events that were held throughout the years.
Nellie V's survivors include 3 daughters, Glenda Houchins and her husband Dannye; Sharon Haynes and her husband, Michael; and Debbie Thompson and her husband Steven; her son, Gerald Wood and his wife, Betty; her sister, Grace Marie Edmondson; her sister-in-law, Nita Brown; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C. B.; her son, Charles Bernard Wood; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Eric Evans officiating, and internment will follow at Richland Springs Cemetery.
