James William "Jimmy" Young, 84, Greenwood, South Carolina, died November 20, 2002. He was born February 9, 1918 in Greenwood County, the son of Robert and Lucille Martin Young Furman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Caroline Johnson Young, and a son, Dell Young.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army in World War II, serving as Staff Sergeant in the European Theatre and the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He was retired from Holiday Inns, Inc, with 18 years of service and was a part time associate of Blyth Funeral Home for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Ashley Crawford Young, Greenwood; daughters, Jimmy Ann (Mike) Davis, Peachtree City, Georgia; stepdaughters, Nancy O'Dell, Ware Shoals and Rebecca Pritchard, Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Roy Furman Young, Aiken; a sister, Inez Y. Davis, Hodges; a grandson, Michael (Autumn) Davis; a granddaughter, Gala (Ernie) Johnson; a great-grandson, Braeden Davis; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services were at Blyth Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ryan Eklund, Rev. David W. Patterson and Rev. Dan Compton officiating. Interment at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, SC, was in charge.
