Donald E. Whinnery, age 73, of Menomonie, Wis., died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at his home.
Donald Everett Whinnery was born July 31, 1927, in the town of Dunn, Dunn County, Wis., to Everett and Mabel (Thompson) Whinnery.
He married Mary Lou Schmutz on June 6, 1946, in Menomonie. Don farmed his entire life until retirement and also worked for 11 years delivering furl for Menomonie Farmers Union Co-op.
He dearly loved his wife of 55 years, his children and grandchildren. They will all miss him and his "long good-byes."
Don is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou of Menomonie; three daughters and two sons, Bonita (Mitch) Hayes of Sturgeon, Miss., Donna (Mike) Spath of Charlotte, N.C., Debbie (John) Canty of Woodbine, Md., Jeff (Joy) Whinnery of Colfax; his grandchildren, Logan, Max, Cody and Casey; one brother, Galen (Elaine) Whinnery of Menomonie; one nephew, Ronald (Marlene) Whinnery of Victoria, Minn.; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Everett Whinnery.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Marilynn Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in the town of Dunn. The family will meet with friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
