Dale Emil Chatelain

Dale Emil Chatelain, Father, Grandfather, Brother and everybody's friend, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his home.
He was born October 22, 1925 at the old ward home on 1050 E. in North Ogden, the only son to Florence Ward and Emil A. Chatelain. His father always said, "I had to get four girls before I got my boy and that was forty-five minutes after Donna (his twin sister) was born". He was raised on the family farm in North Ogden.
Dale and Donna went through the Weber County school system and graduated in the spring of 1943. At the time, he was deferred from the Army to raise food for the armed forces. The next spring he was drafted into the Army, but not before he married his high school sweetheart, Theo Berrett, on January 3, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957.
He entered in the Armed Services in 1944, serving the U.S. Army in World War II in the infantry in Korea. After his discharge he returned home where he worked with his parents on their 30-acre fruit farm and took over his father's milk hauling job. He worked for the Weber Central Dairy picking up raw milk from farms in Weber County.
During this time, he bought his first registered quarter horse, which started a love affair in the horse business. He then bought three more horses and started showing, racing and breeding, with his whole family in complete support. He joined the Riders of the Wasatch riding club, and then spent 30 years with the Weber County Sheriffs Mounted Posse. He was also a member of the Inter Mountain Quarter Horse Association, the Wasatch Slope's Cutter Association, the Ogden Valley Racing Association, and the Weber Sheriffs Search and Rescue, first on horseback and later on snowmobile.
In 1965, Dale went to work for North Ogden City in the maintenance department and as a volunteer firefighter. In 1978, he was appointed North Ogden Public Works Director, a job he held until his retirement in 1990. During this time, he also served as President of the Rice Creek Irrigation Company and spent 52 years on the Ben Lomond Cemetery Board. He served on the North Ogden city council for four years in the early 50's, and eight more after he retired. In 2009,the equestrian park in North Ogden was named after him.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of different callings during his lifetime.
He is survived by his twin sister, Donna Stewart, his daughters, Linda (Don) Schneider, Sun City West, Arizona; Karen (James) Mathews, Sanford, Florida; and sons, Corey (Annette) Chatelain, Henry, Idaho and Kim Chatelain, North Ogden. He has 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Melba Frandsen, Virginia Carver, and Fay Myers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 21st Ward, 650 E 2600 N., North Ogden. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery District in North Ogden.
Dale loved North Ogden, the mountains that surrounded it, and the people that live in it. He also loved to hunt and fish with his family and vacation in Yellowstone each summer. He always said that he lived in the better part of this old world and that it was sad that his grand kids could not enjoy the same experiences (and horses and dogs) that he had while he was growing up.
