He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, the son of the late Henry Grady Heatherly and Vernia Hester Babb Heatherly, formerly of East Flat Rock. He was also preceded in death by two wives and four brothers, Lloyd Heatherly, M.C. Heatherly, Joe Heatherly and Monroe Heatherly. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by three children, Evelyn S. Goodman of Panama City, Fla., Clifton Elmer Heatherly Jr. and his wife, Belvie, of Fletcher and Charles Keith Heatherly of Fletcher; 13 grandchildren, Teresa McGintey and her husband, Jim, Woody Heatherly and his wife, Tanya, Tina Heatherly, Christy Robinson and her husband, Keith, Joey Goodman and his wife, Tracy, Eric Goodman, Cheryl Hagan and her husband, Ed, Cindy Milam and her husband, Jay, Trinia Trenholm and her husband, Steve, Marcella Goodman, Charles Heatherly Jr. and his wife, Kirsten, Butch Heatherly and his wife, Jennifer, and Juliet Heatherly, wife of the late Garland Heatherly; two stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Heatherly of Hendersonville and James Grady Heatherly and Ripley Heatherly of East Flat Rock; four sisters, Sarah Doore and Vernia Hill of Hendersonville, Catherine Schroader of Dana and Mary Jones of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Ronald Greiser will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
