Harold Backstrom
COOLIDGE - Harold C. Backstrom, 91, died on Dec 30, 2011, in Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
The celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Community Presbyterian Church of Cooldige. Interment will be later in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.
Mr. Backstrom was born on Sept. 6, 1920, in Blaine, Wash., to John and Ada Backstrom. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was injured in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was an elementary school teacher and principal in Washington state and Arizona for 40 years before retirement and a longtime Coolidge resident.
Survivors include three sons, Ragan J. Backstrom of Alamogordo, N.M., Craig Backstrom of Coolidge and Ted Knutson of Snohomish, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyla; a daughter Floris M. Dean; and a brother, Bert D. Backstrom.
Heritage Coolidge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
