An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on March 1, 1923 for Mrs. C. D. Pierce stated she had died at the family home on North Morgan, Sunday, [February 25, 1923]. Josephine Reynolds was born in Okaw township on November 21, 1859, being a daughter of David Reynolds. She married C. D. Pierce and for some time they lived at Duval, where Mr. Pierce conducted a store. They had lived in Shelbyville several years. Three children were born to them, two of whom were living, Fred and Thomas Pierce of Shelbyville. A daughter, Pearl Pierce had preceded the mother in death by several years. Besides the husband and sons, Mrs. Pierce was survived by two brothers and five sisters: T. V. Reynolds, Parsons, Kan.; W. R. Reynolds, Springfield; Mrs. Belle Thurman, Neosha, Mo., and Ella, Dora, Mary and Bessie who were married and living in Kansas. Funeral services were held from the home, Rev. N. H. Robertson officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
