Son of Page and Elizabeth "Cyncy" (Martin) Stanley.

James first marriage was to Mary M. Clark. They married in December 1865 in Kanawha County, WV. Together they had three children Hubbard W., Nancy E. and Cora V. Sadly Mary passed away from a fever in 1887. On December 24, 1888 James married for a second time to Sarah J. Brewer in Kanawha County, WV. James' third marriage was on May 7, 1893 to Mary Margaret "Maggie" Siders in Mason County, WV. Together they had one son Okey Edward.

James was a farmer. He passed away from old age at 79.

James is buried to the right of his son Okey Edward Stanley. There is no headstone for him at this time. To the right of James is a small stone that says Stanley and Mother on it. It is believed to be Maggies gravesite.
