Died at the residence of his son, L M Van Slyke in the Village of Elmore, Minnesota Friday, January 16, 1891 John Van Slyke aged 70 years. The deceased was born in Niagara County, New York where he remained until 1870 when he removed to Minnesota, settling in Elmore Township. Since the death of his wife, which occurred four years ago he has lived with his children and has been gradually failing in health. He leaves six children as follows: C D Van Slyke, Tonowanda, New York, Mrs. J E Bush Northfield, Minnesota; Mrs. H. C. Conklin, Monroe L and Delavan A Van Slyke of Elmore and John A and Jesse Van Slyke of Blue Earth City. All but the two former were present at the funeral, which was held at Elmore on Sunday, January 18,1891 with Rev. W S Cachrane officiating. The remains were brought to this place and laid to rest in our cemetery.
