He was the son of Benjamin Jantz and Anna J. B. (Eva) Becker. He married on 21 December 1879 in U.S. to Aganetha Koehn, daughter of William W. Koehn and Helena (unknown maiden name) Koehn.

In addition to the children listed below, there were two other children who died young that do not have memorials - Helena "Lena" and Leah who was Rachel's twin.
