Mehitable was the daughter of Nathaniel Garard and Mary Lloyd Garard. She married James G. Blue on June 18, 1799 in Hamilton Co., Ohio. To this marriage were born nine children. Her husband died May 29, 1819 in Troy, Miami Co., Ohio.
Mehetable briefly married Jonathan Scudder on Apr 19, 1922, and he was appointed guardian of the minor children of James. Then in 1931, Robert H. Culbertson was appointed guardian. The marriage apparently did not take, but for some reasons she took back the name of Blue.
In 1836 she moved to Jefferson Twp., Elkhart County and is living with her youngest son Abner Blue who is single until 1843. Her other children Judith, Mary, and James L. Blue are also in Elkhart County before 1840.
There is an old Blue Family Bible that was purchased by her husband James G. Blue, when he was young, it has been passed down in the family, through her son Abner Blue. I saw it in the 1990's, and descendant James Lloyd Blue (1925-2010) copied pages for me. It reads "She died at the home of her son, Abner in Elkhart Co., Indiana."
Elkhart Co., IN Mortality Schedule for 1850 lists Mehatable Blue, age 72, female, widow, born KY, died Feb, cause not known, duration 1 hour. (Although I am not sure if Kentucky is accurate.)
Pine Creek Cemetery, Elkhart Co., Indiana Cemeteries Vol. 4, p. 24, Section 1 row 7, Mehetible w/o James b. 8-12-1777 d. 7-11-1851. And they year is 1850.
