Homer Hake was the son of James Hake and Florence Ballard. His paternal grandparents were Emanuel Hake Sr. and Alcinda Reapsomer. His maternal grandparents were Clisby Ballard and Katherine Hake. He died of influenza in which dementia praecox was a contributing factor.

In 1910 Homer was living with his parents in Howland, Ohio. In 1917 Homer was residing at the Massillon State Hospital for the insane. He suffered from dementia praecox.
