Lessie Marie Laymon passed away in Tulsa on January 10, 2012 at 83 years of age. She was born on March 21, 1928, in Richland, Arkansas - a valley settlement, located in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas; the closest real town is Witch Springs, Ark. – located somewhere between Harrison, and Dover, Ark on Highway #7.
Lessie was born to Charley L. Casey and Elizabeth M. (Boyd) Casey – they had eight children. Lessie had four brothers and three sisters: Brothers: Leo Casey (Deceased), Lewis "Buddy" Casey (Deceased), William "Bill" Casey, and Vernon Casey (Deceased) Sisters: Flossie Kuykendall (Deceased), Bessie Rickel (Deceased) and Jewel Adney.
Lessie married her childhood sweetheart, Daniel Johnson Laymon on November 19, 1947 and spent the next 51 years with Daniel fishing and raising their family of three boys and numerous cats and dogs that the boys drug home.
After marrying Daniel, Lessie and family lived a quiet country life near Dover, Ark. – moving to Sand Spring, Ok in 1953. She lived modestly here staying within a two block radius for the next 8 years. The family lived in 5 different homes during these 8 years and never needed a truck or trailer when moving. They simply picked up what they had and carried it over to the next house and the walk was short; sometimes from one door to the next, but the houses kept getting a little better each time. The family moved south of the Arkansas River in 1961 to what was known then as Prattville.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 12th and Friday, January 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church, 13 W 40th St, Sand Springs, with Rev. Tom Amos officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park, 1200 N Cleveland, Sand Springs, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service.
