S. C. SWEARENGIN DIED TUESDAY

Funeral services for the late Schuyler C. Swearengin who died last Tuesday evening will be held at the Sardy Mortuary Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Keith Hamilton, Community Church minister, will conduct the service. The local Masonic Lodge will conduct the services at the grave. Burial will be made in Red Butte Cemetery.

Schuyler C. Swearengin was born January 19, 1880 at Johns Mills, Mo., the son of John and Jane Swearengin. The family later moved to Bradleyville, Mo., where young Schuyler attended school and grew to manhood.

While at Bradleyville he farmed and raised livestock for his father for several years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Spencer at Johns Mills, Mo., October 21, 1900 and to this union was born one daughter, Hazel. The young couple began keeping house at that place living there until 1904 when they moved to Colorado and Aspen.

For six and one-half years, Mr. Swearengin was in the service of the U. S. Forest Service and later worked in several of the mines including the Smuggler, Newman, and Midnight.

For many years, Mr. Swearengin has been leasing in Smuggler No. 2 tunnel, doing all the work by himself and shipping between one and two cars of ore each year.

Mr. Swearengin belonged to all of the local Masonic lodges which are: Hiram Lodge No. 98, Keystone Chapter No. 19, and Aspen Mountain Commandery No. 14 in all of which he has been active for many years.

He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aspen Volunteer Fire Department and the Woodmen of the World.

Although Mr. Swearengin's health had been failing for the past several years he still found strength and time to improve his home, and keep his yard and garden immaculate. His garden was his chief interest and he spent much of his spare time working in it.

He is survived by his widow and the daughter, now Mrs. Hazel Ashcroft, of Riverside, Calif., and one grandson, Edward; one brother, Charles of Springfield, Mo.; and one sister, Miss Mary Swearengin of Bruner, Mo.
