LYDIA SIMPSON who was born 30 November 1765, daughter of Simeon and Mary (Mulford) Simpson. (Simeon Simpson was born 14 August 1743, a son of Alexander and Elizabeth Simpson. Simeon married 10 February 1763 Mary Mulford who was born 6 January 1745 to Ezekiel and Bathiah Mulford.) Lydia (Simpson) Sayre died 4 March 1841. Burial was at Prosperity (south of Washington), Pennsylvania in a cemetery adjacent to Ten Mile Run Presbyterian Church. Lydia married SAMUEL SAYRE was born 15 April 1761, a son of Samuel of Somerset County, New Jersey. During the Revolution, Samuel was a soldier in Captain Benjamin Corey's Company, First Battalion, Somerset County, New Jersey Militia. Samuel Sayre was with General Washington when they recrossed the Delaware River Christmas Night 1776. Among the many troop maneuvers, he also spent the historic cold winter at Valley Forge with Washington's Troops. Two old family bibles owned by descendants have recorded the birth of the triplets as 26 February 1794. General George Washington was a close personal friend of the family, and since the triplets were born in the same month as George, Samuel invited him to give them names. General Washington chose to name the triplets after his three favorite generals, Montgomery, Warren, and Mercer and sent a gift of fifty dollars for each.
Samuel Sayre and family moved to western Pennsylvania where he was a farmer. He died 14 March 1813 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, where his will was recorded. His brother, Ezekiel Sayre, witnessed his will. Children:
