Ruth Simpson Koch of Athens, GA, died Dec 23, 2011. She is the wife of George Schneider Koch Jr. Ruth was born in Dodge City, KS, July 15, 1927, the daughter of Clof and Flora Williams Simpson. Raised by her mother, she attended schools in Dodge City prior to their moving to Houston, TX in 1944. She graduated from Rice University in 1948 and later received a M.A. degree from the University of Georgia.

Ruth is remembered by her family and friends as a warm and compassionate individual. She enjoyed playing tennis, sang in several choirs and was active in Unitarian Universalist churches.

Throughout her life, Ruth was a hard-working and competent worker. Among other occupations, she taught elementary school and special needs children and worked with her husband in consulting, research and the family manufacturing business.

Survivors include her husband; son Kirk (Ingrid) Whittington, Atlanta, GA; daughter Sara (Jackson) Guest, Athens, GA, and their granddaughter Toni Guest; brothers Roderic (Zelma) Simpson, Kansas City, MO, and Stanley (Patricia) Simpson, Hutchinson, KS; stepchildren Sarah Kochav, Eric Koch and Jonathan Koch; step-grandchildren Dana Katz, Raphael Katz, Hana Katz, Nixie Koch, Piper Koch and Corvin Koch.

She was preceded in death by son Greg Whittington, daughter Leslie Whittington, sons-in-law Parker Hodges and Charlie Falkenberg and granddaughters Zoe and Dana Falkenberg.
