David R. Davis, 55, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

Born September 21, 1956, in Seymour, David was the son of James R. Davis and Shirley Elam Beatty. He graduated from Columbus North High School in 1976. He married Eve Corbin on June 24, 1977. She survives.

Mr. Davis had been a property maintenance manager at Housing Partnership Inc. He was a crew leader for Housing Partnership Blitz Homes, and Wednesday Crew Manager with Housing Partnership, Inc. He had been a member of Burnt Pines Church of Christ for 42 years, where he served as an elder. He had been a member of the Vernon Fire Department for 20 years, and had served as Fire Chief. He was a leader in building the smokehouse for teaching children fire safety. He was a 4H leader and a JCHS Marching Band and Jazz Band Parent Booster. He had 37 years of service at Muscatatuck Christian Ranch, and served on the board of directors of Muscatatuck Christian Ranch and Camp MCR.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Davis is survived 3 daughters, Dawn (Brian) Johnson of Bedford, Kristy (Luke) Collins of Indianapolis and Kenda (Derrick) Maschino of Commiskey; 2 grandchildren, Scott and David; a brother, John (Tammy) Davis of Scipio; a sister, Kim (Mick) McDermott of Columbus; and an aunt, Norma Linney.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Michael Bean and Rev. Kenny Corbin will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday, December 30, 2011 and from 10:00 AM until the time of the Service on Saturday. A fireman's service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Graham Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Amyloidosis Foundation or the 4H Livestock Committee.
