Ralph W. Edgerton was born December 18, 1917 on a farm west of Des Moines, Iowa. He entered into the presence of Jesus on January 10, 2012, in Nampa, Idaho at the age of 94.

Ralph was the fourth of five children born to Clyde and Edith (Patience) Edgerton. In 1932, the year of the Great Depression, the family heard there was work in Idaho. In their 1929 Model A Ford, the family moved with their few belongings to Jerome, Idaho, and later to Filer. Ralph was 14 years old and this was the first time they had electricity. His mother bought their groceries for $10 a month, but sometimes by the end of the month they had only oatmeal to eat.

He graduated from Wendell High School in 1937. That fall he went to work building roads at the Civil Conservation Corps camp on the Salmon River at French Creek, about 20 miles east of Riggins. He credited his time in the CCC as a pivotal event in his life, taking pride in being able to teach math to other young men.

In the summer of 1938, while working on a farm south of Wendell, he started dating Wilda Young, who was in nurse's training at Montana Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls. On Thanksgiving Day, 1939, he packed his suitcase and headed for Great Falls in his 1930 Model A Ford. He got a job working in the kitchen at the Columbus Hospital, near the Deaconess Hospital. He and Wilda were married in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, June 6, 1940, for 70 happy years before Wilda passed away on December 24, 2010.

He began working at the Pacific Fruit Express in Nampa on December 1, 1943, retiring after 35 years from the job he loved. From his early youth he was avidly interested in anything with wheels or engines.

Ralph liked raising and milking cows, gardening and working on his acreage east of Nampa. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time at their cabin on Thorn creek. He loved his children and grandchildren and delighted in doing activities with them. He had a great sense of humor and kept us spellbound with stories of happenings in earlier times. While holding a grandbaby he would joke about "relative humidity."

Ralph & Wilda faithfully had devotions together while they were able. He was devoted to his Lord and the church, was treasurer for many years and was active in Sunday School and church camps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two older brothers, Clarence and Arnold "Ikey"; a sister Bernice Kulm; a daughter, Lourena Mae Edgerton; and a grandson, Kent Edgerton.

He is survived by his sons, Larry (Lynette), of Nampa and Milton (Janice) Edgerton, of Meridian. Grandchildren, Kevin (Alice) Edgerton of South Central Asia, Todd (Jennifer) Edgerton of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dale (Rose) Edgerton of Brentwood, Tennessee, Janine (Daryl) Habersetzer of Boise, Carl (Geri) Edgerton of Boise, Brian (Mary) Edgerton of Boise, Angela (Tim) Vaughn of Caldwell, Nathan (Melissa) Edgerton of Security, Colorado, and Brandon Edgerton of Boise, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and seven nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the very kind and attentive caregivers at Journey's Hospice, the Clearwater House, and Maggie's Certified Family Home.

Services will be held Monday January 16th, at 11:00 AM at the United First Methodist Church, 2717 12th Ave Rd., Nampa, ID 83686, with Pastor John Watts officiating. A viewing will be held on Sunday January 15th from 5-6 pm at Alsip Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa, ID 83651. www.alsipfuneralchapel.com 208-466-3545.
