Aaron Ray Havens, 75, of Midland, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

He was born on May 6, 1925 in Hope, son of the late Hiram and Edna (Van Schoick) Havens. He attended Hope schools. He had worked for the Dow Chemical Company for 38 years in the Cal-Mag and Service Station as an operator. He married the former Kathyleen (Kay) Mapes on Oct. 18, 1947.

Ray had served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Suesens in World War II, serving in the Philippines and South Pacific. His hobbies included building doll houses for his five granddaughters, hunting, fishing wife his wife and buddies, camping, and visiting with his neighbors and many friends. He and Kay spent their winters in Newport Richey, Fla. He was a member of the Midland American Legion Berryhill Post 165.

He is survived by his wife Kay; daughters Penny (James) Kovacevich, Pam (Darryl) Burkhardt, all of Midland, and Becky (Gayle) Voisine of Victor, Mont.; grandchildren Jenny and Ashley Kovacevich, Troy Burkhardt, Tracey Farison; Stephanie, Sara and Jeremy Voisine; one great-grandson Travis Burkhardt; sister Irene Pevitt and sister-in-law Minnie Havens; mother-in-law Charlotte Mapes; brothers-in-law Howard (Phyllis) Stickley, Carol (Oleta) Stickley; sister-in-law Barbara (Donald) Owen, Patsy (Cecil) Sheets, Karen Mapes, Bonnie (Louie) Thatcher, Sandy (Alan) Morrison; several nieces and nephews and by his best childhood friend Courtney (Marilyn Joann) Filmore.

He was predeceased by one brother Harold Havens and sisters Elsie Deutscher, Marie Crosby and Ardith Cobb.

Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steven McCoy of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Full military honors were presented under the auspices of the Midland American Legion Berryhill Post 165.
