Mrs. Helen S. Armstrong, 87, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA. and formerly of Mercersburg and St. Thomas, PA. died Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2004, in the center. Born Jan. 22, 1917, in Mercersburg, PA. she was a daughter of the late Harvey A. and Minerva Walker Mellott. She was a former employee of the former Mercersburg Dress Factory. She retired in 1976 from the former Lowengart Company of Mercersburg, following 20 years of service. For a number of years, Mrs. Armstrong and her husband, Edward L. Armstrong, operated a flea market in St. Thomas. Mr. Armstrong died Aug. 15, 1994. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of Ebenezer United Brethren Church of Greencastle. Surviving are: daughter, Jeanne (Mrs. Russell) Wilcox of Carlisle, PA; sons, John E. Carmack of Mercersburg, PA and Garry R. Carmack of Greencastle, PA; sister, Ethel McLaughlin of Mercersburg, PA; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA.
