Daniel C. Hopkins was a nurseryman, engaged in growing all types of fruit & ornamental trees, shrubs, plants, flowers & vegetables. He owned two nurseries, one in Steuben Co., NY and one in Almond, Allegany Co., NY. He also had a farm in Hornellsville where he resided.

He married Sarah Crandall, daughter of Henry W. Crandall of Almond, on July 16, 1891.
