There is some disagreement regarding her birth year. The California Death Index, her naturalization application, and her headstone say 1903. But the 1901 UK census, her Social Security records, the ship manifest when her family came to the US, and the 1910 Missouri census, all state she was born in 1900.
Elizabeth immigrated to the US with her mother and three siblings in 1905, when she was five years old. Her father had immigrated two months earlier.
Her father was a below ground miner in England and a laborer in the US.
The family initially lived in Frountenac, Crawford county, Kansas and by 1910 had moved to Joplin, Jasper, Missouri.
Elizabeth, her mother and her brother Thomas moved to San Francisco before 1920. Elizabeth's parents might have separated around that time (we can not find a census record for her father). Her parents were living together in Los Angeles in 1930. Elizabeth found work in San Francisco as a file clerk.
On July 31, 1924, Elizabeth married James McElvey in Santa Ana, Orange county, California. It's possible they were later divorced before 1932.
On September 27, 1932, Elizabeth received a license to marry Robert Lovelace Barrett in Yavapai, Arizona. However, in February 1936, the couple received another license to get married in San Bernadino, California. In any event, Robert had one child from a previous marriage: Mary Sue Barrett. There is no record as to whether Elizabeth and Robert had children.
Elizabeth is interred in the same mausoleum crypt as her brother Thomas. Her parents are interred in the same mausoleum.
