JN Smith, 75, Springfield, was born April 28, 1931 and passed away December 16, 2006. He was born in Christian County Missouri to Sherman and Katie Smith. JN was a member St. Luke United Methodist church. JN received his Bachelors, Master, and PHD degrees from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He taught at MU for 7 years and then transferred to Southwest Missouri State in 1959 to help create the AG Economics program. Dr Smith was the founder of the AG-Industry Study and actively refined it for over 25 years. He was retired from Southwest Missouri State University in 1999.

He was active in the Speakers Bureau and Faculty Senate at SMSU. He contributed countless hours to 4-H, Production Credit Association, Farmers Home Administration, FFA, Chamber of Commerce, Federal Land Bank and Farm Credit Banks. He recently received the Wall of Fame award for his contributions to higher education at Missouri State University. He was well known for his undying devotion to help any and all students wishing to improve their knowledge. He instilled in his students, integrity, honesty and self-reliance. He constantly desired to improve his knowledge. The Family Farmer will sorely miss him.

His survivors are his lovely bride of 50 years, Patricia. Four children: Carolee Smith, Kansas City, Stuart Smith, Battlefield, Lisa Park, Independence and Kevin Smith, San Jose CA. Three grandchildren: Charlotte Smith, Springfield, Riley Smith, Independence and Madeleine Park, Independence. A memorial service will be held, Wednesday, December 20, 2006 10:00am at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make any donations to the: Student Scholarship fund of Farm Credit Bank, Springfield.
