Albert Jesse Samson was born on Nov. 12, 1919 at West Bend, IA. His parents were Cecil and Marie (Ketelsen) Samson. When they discovered at an early age that Albert was deaf, the family moved to Council Bluffs, IA so Albert could attend the Iowa School for the Deaf. He attended grade school and high school there where he enjoyed taking part in sports. After graduation, Albert headed for California where he worked in the Douglas Aircraft factory during World War II. After the war, he returned to Council Bluffs and was employed at the Alfred Bloom Company in Omaha until he retired.

On October 7, 1950 he was married to Mary E. Albrecht in Des Moines, IA. They made their home with his parents in Council Bluffs. They enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling and eating out with their deaf friends in the Council Bluffs and Omaha area. Albert was a very talented wood crafter. He made furniture as well as doing many building projects from his shop in the basement of their home.

Albert was a devoted caregiver to his father while he was in the nursing home. When his wife's health failed, he took care of her at home until in 1990 when Albert had open heart surgery and could no longer care for her. Albert chose to move to Spirit Lake when he got out of the hospital so he could be closer to his relatives. Mary was cared for at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake until her death in November 1991.

Albert missed his deaf friends when he moved but enjoyed seeing his relatives in the Spirit Lake, Algona, Emmetsburg and West Bend area. Albert enjoyed driving to his cousin's farm about everyday to see what was happening at the farm and work in his woodshop that was moved there. He continued to enjoy building until his health failed him. He moved to Hilltop Care Center in 1996 where he has lived until his death. The Hilltop care giver's soon learned how to communicate with him especially the call for his cup of "Coke" or his favorite "Snickers" candy bar. Albert was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by two Aunts, Edna Ketelsen and Minnie Balgeman; an Uncle, Arnold Ketelsen, and many cousins.
