The second of at least nine children born to Joseph and Hannah (Harrell) Hiatt of Rowan Co (now Guilford) NC and later Frederick Co VA, Hannah married Thomas Sumner on 8 Oct 1777 at Toms Creek Friends MH in Rowan Co (now Surry) NC.
They had ten children, six daughters and four sons. The family moved to OH in 1809, settling in Paint Twp. Hannah and Thomas were Quakers and she died sometime before 1829.
