LaRue Betts

LaRue Cotten Battle Betts, age 96, died on September 22, 2009. Born in Whitakers, NC., she was the daughter of the late Alexander Parker Battle and the late Sallie Vick Battle. She was the wife of the late Thomas Alexander Betts. Surviving are: her sons, Thomas Alexander Betts, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Robert Battle Betts of Macon, GA; a daughter, Sally Betts Kingsley of Ellicott City, MD; five grandchildren; twin great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons. She was a member of the Whitakers United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Church Women. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Eleanor White Dare Chapter. An avid Bridge player, she enjoyed playing in several Bridge Clubs and valued the resulting friendships. She was especially renowned for her pound cakes that she lovingly shared with family and friends. The family will receive friends at 412 Shady Circle Drive, Rocky Mount on Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whitakers United Methodist Church, PO Box 276, Whitakers, NC 27891. Graveside service will be held at Gold Rock Cemetery on Friday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles J. Robl III officiating. Arrangements by Wheeler-Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
