Vidalia, GA - Mrs. Myrtle Butler Mays Horne, age 88 of Vidalia, died Friday, December 30, 2011 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Glenwood, lived in Soperton for several years, and was a 1943 Graduate of Soperton High School. She lived in several states, including Arkansas before moving to Toombs County in 1961. She was employed at Piggly Wiggly Southern for several years, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia, and was a former member of the First Baptist of Soperton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Horne; her son, Don Mays, Jr.; great-grandson, Adam Mays; great-granddaughter, Brittany McLain; and five siblings, Norman, Curtis, Doshia, Gertrude, and Carrie.

Mrs. Horne is survived by two daughters, Peggy Mays Wilson and husband Billy of Lyons, and Carolyn Mays of Dublin; six grandchildren, Cynthia McLain and husband Jeff of Vidalia, Benjamin Wilson of Lyons, Courtney William Wilson, U.S. Navy and wife Nicole, Don Mays III of Lyons, Christopher Mays of Birmingham, Alabama, and Chadwick Mays of Hilton Head South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Janice Mays Glover of Davisboro; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7th at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church of Vidalia with Reverend Don Moye officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Soperton.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 631, Vidalia, GA 30475, or either Rachel's House, 118 East Meadows St., Vidalia, GA 30474, or either the Mercy Clinic, 300 Arlington Drive, Vidalia, GA 30474.
