Supposed to be: William A James, Co K, 17th IL Inf. who enlisted on Dec. 1, 1861. Roster shows death date as March 13, 1862.
The 17th IL Inf was consolidated with the 8th IL Inf but not until 1864. The death year of 1862 would show that that in no way pertains to this soldier.
The Illinois Soldier's database states that this soldier from CO K, 17th IL Inf died at Savannah, TN on Sept. 30, 1862, which is too far away from Covington, KY to be the correct identification. Camp Nelson exhumation crew would not have disinterred soldiers from Hardin County, Tennessee.
