Mayor of Jamestown 1952-1954.

No stone or marker but records show he is buried beside his son Jack and there is a low spot there.

Spouse: Erna Reagan Vinal, died 03-06-2005

Son: Jack Allen Bowman

Daughter Betty Bowman Sweirkos

Sisters: Mary Bowman Canter, Elizabeth Bowman
Niece: Pearl German Bowman

Husband of Erna Reagan Vinal and Mrs. Beatrice Coffey and son of Isaac Marion Bowman and Sarah Ann Allred. Born in Overton County, TN. but raised partly in Tennessee and partly in Kentucky. He was Mayor of Jamestown 1952-1954 and owned Bowman's Furniture Store. The Bowman Furniture Company was first started as Turner & Bowman in 1946. Mr. Oval O Turner, who had been in the furniture business in Albany sold out and thought he would start a store in Jamestown. He knew Fonzo who was then working in Detroit and asked him to join his venture. It was located at the intersection of US 127 and the old Rowena Road. In 1950 Fonzo bought out Oval's portion and changed name to Bowman's Furniture Store. I think he might have had one in Hodgensville too. He went to Detroit for 21 years and came to Jamestown in 1946. He was a Mason, joining them in 1927 and a member of the Jamestown Lion's Club. He owned two farms east of Jamestown. He married Mrs. Beatrice Coffey in 1953. He had two children by a previous marriage, Jack and Betty. He is supposed to be buried in this cemetery beside his son Jack Allen Bowman but there is no stone for him that we found. His daughter Betty married Robert John Swierkos and he died in 2015. She was a teacher. They have a stone at Oxbow Lakeside Cemetery. They had one son, Christopher, who died in Milford, Michigan when he was hit by a camper truck. It was considered vehicular homicide since the driver fled the scene. He is buried in that cemetery too.
