Everett Austin, 93, of McLeansboro, died at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center. He was a retired plasterer.

He was born on May 10, 1904, in Hoodville, a son of Daniel Austin and Lena (Cross) Austin. On May 21, 1923, in McLeansboro, he married Helen (Merrell) Austin, who survives. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro and had a lifetime hobby of collecting and repairing clocks.

The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Bob White officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Mr. Austin is survived by his wife of 74 years, Helen of McLeansboro; one daughter, Euladean Mick of McLeansboro; three grandchildren, James E. Mick and wife, Lynette of Athens, Illinois, Jeanne Chapman and husband John of McLeansboro, David Mick and wife Angie of Chatham, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren, Bob Chapman and wife Jennifer of McLeansboro, Dan, Wesley and Amy Chapman of McLeansboro, Nolan, Jake and Kenton Mick of Chantham, Illinois and Kellan and Dean Mick of Athens, Illinois; one great-great-grandson, James Levi Chapman of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son Everett Gene, his parents, four brothers, one sister and one son-in-law.
