John Desmond Rice, 43, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Destin Tuesday. John was the beloved son of Ed and Ruth Rice. He graduated from Huntsville High in 1980 and went on to attend UAH , where he studied art. One of his many accomplishments was achieving the honor of Eagle Scout. John worked in hospitality for over 20 years, spending 14 of them at the Hilton Hotel in Huntsville before moving to Destin in 2003 to work at the Ocean Club in Sandestin. John was Catholic and attended Resurrection Catholic Church in Miramar Beach, Fla. One cannot say enough about John's kind spirit. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. John was preceded in death by his father, Ed Rice, of Huntsville.
