Harold Neal Shafer died Tuesday.

Mr. Shafer was born April 28, 1900, on a farm near Valley Springs. He lived in that area until serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in World War I. Soon after his return, he began employment with John Morrell & Co., from which he retired as a millwright in 1965. He married Loura Margaret Sunderman Jan. 9, 1932, in Madison, SD. She died Jul 19, 1977.

Harold was a member of the American Legion, the Elmwood Men's Club, and his working of wood into violins brought a special interest in his membership in the Shrine to Music Foundation.

Survivors include four sons, Harold L., Pittsburgh, PA, Gerald "Jack", Sioux Falls, Kenneth, Warren, PA, and Edward, Seattle, WA; nine gradchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Coulter, Pine River, MN, Mrs. Hazel Ronning, and Mrs. Edna Nerison, both of Sioux Falls.

Services were held at 10 AM, Saturday, Dec. 29, 1984.
