Funeral services for Dewey J. Abshire will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with Rev. Jose Robles-Sanchez officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens, Woodworth.

Dewey J. Abshire, 76, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence.

Dewey is preceded in death by his son, Dewey Abshire; two brothers, Linus Abshire and Nelson Abshire; and one sister, Effie Choate.

Mr. Abshire was retired with 23 years of service in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Dewey is survived by his wife Gertrude Abshire; children, Kathy Brown and husband Jerry, Roy Abshire and wife Bobbie, John Abshire, Helena Slayter and husband Keith; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Billy Abshire, Roy Abshire, Keith Slayter, David Abshire, Greg Searcy, and Don Funderburk.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 and from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at John Kramer & Son. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
