Elsie Mae Butler Dies Friday; Rites Held Monday

Elsie Mae Butler, age 55, of Shoals, died at 8:15 p.m., Friday, January 28, 1994, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford, IN. She had been in ill health for several years.

She was born on February 12, 1938, in Orange County to Samuel Roscoe and Minnie Viola (Probasco) Butler, and both parents survive.

The father is a resident of the Martin County Nursing Center at Loogootee, and the mother resides in Shoals.

Elsie was employed at the former Sheraton Hotel in French Lick for several years.

She attended the Shoals schools and was a member of the Fairview Community Church near Shoals. She was responsible as a member of the church for sending birthday greetings, get-well wishes, etc. to members of the congregation. She had never married.

In addition to her parents, survivors include four sisters, Mrs. David (Ruth) Holman of Shoals, Mrs. Ray (Betty) Salmon and Mrs. Pauline Taylor, both of Loogootee, and Mrs. Roger (Jane) Crowe of French Lick; three brothers, Roscoe Lavern Butler and Leroy Eugene Butler, both of Shoals and Samuel Lester Butler of French Lick; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals, with Brother Wayne Pendley officiating. The vocalist was Melba Richardson.

Pallbearers were Roger Salmon, Ray Dean Salmon, Randy Holman, Kevin Johnson, Lawrence Davis and Brad Chastain.

Burial was made in the Butler Cemetery at rural Shoals.
