Christine Schacht, life-long resident of the Cook area, passed away July 3, in the Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Schacht had been in failing health the past year and had spent considerable time in the hospital. Born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Damme, on March 5, 1880 she was baptized May 2, 1880 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Church near Cook.
She was married to Fred Schacht March 14, 1900 in the same church where she was baptized. Mrs. Schacht was a charter member of the Women's Organization of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Cook, and took an active part in their work until recently, when she became ill.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Arent of Lincoln, and Mrs. Ervin Reuter of Cook; sons, Elmer of Humboldt, Arthur of Tecumseh, Paul of San Diego, and LeRoy of Cook; a sister, Mrs. Kate Naber of Cook; sons-in-law, Henry Arent and Ervin Reuter; four daughters-in-law, Mesdames Elmer, Arthur, Paul and LeRoy Schacht. Seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, August, her parents, four brothers, six sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Herbert E Kuhn in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ near Cook, Tuesday, July 5. Interment was made in the Church Cemetery.
